  3. Hi Brad! I am really impressed with your comprehensive site. I've been cleaning out old boxes for a move and came across hundreds of SLU still in their boxes. This includes the early hockey sets and the 1992 box Dream Team sets. If I'm interested in selling any of these, where would be the best place to go? Thanks, Noah!

    1. There's a Facebook group just for selling SLU's. You'll find the link under 'Other Links'. Usually they sell a lot better if you put together a comprehensive list with condition ie. creases, plastic dents, yellowing plastic.

  4. Why are some SLUs worth so much? Take Simon Fletcher's 1990 (NFL) SLU. Why is it worth so much? Was it a limited release? If so, did Kenner intentionally release fewer SLUs for some players? Or were they regional releases? I'm really curious. Thanks! -Clayton

    1. Yes, no two players were made in the same quantity. The All-Star cases were national releases while the team cases were only distributed in state. Usually 25K All-Star players were made while less than 5K regional players were made. 1990 Football

  15. Hello,I'm in Ontario,Canada. Recently I came across an ad by someone who was blowing out his last 14 MLB sealed figures (various years) for just $20 total. In addition to price though, what sold me was the inclusion of the 1992(?) Bo Jackson figure that came with coin.It cost me another $10 to obtain transportation to & from,so $30 all-in,however upon returning home I discovered some singles & some small card sets,as well as an autographed puck. Within an hour I gave my friend a deal selling him the autographed puck along with 4 of the figures for the $30 I put out for everything.Leaving me out nothing, but with my Bo Jackson figure,as well as 9 more figures profit, plus the singles & small card sets that were in box. So I'm obviously pleased with the deal.thinking even if I got $5 each on last 9,that's another $45 profit! The line-up is fairly decent so I was thinking $45 sounded manageable. BUT THEN,(and shame on me for not noticing way sooner),THEN as I'm going through them recently, taking some photos in order to list for sale,I realize that three of the nine remaining figures, are actually 1989 CANADIAN figures!! (Whoops!). Mark Mcgwire,Mike Greenwell and Gary Gaetti. Now to stress how bonehead a move not realizing sooner was,one of the four I sold my friend for my $30 cost back was a 1989 Rickey Henderson, but I have nothing to complain about OBVIOUSLY.I'm glad he got a bonus in addition to the deal I gave him. OK,apologies,it's a question I'm here for,not tales of triumph. I just felt it was a pretty sweet story to share, and it goes with my question please.Where can I find an idea on values of the Canadian MLB SLU's please & thank-you?

  25. Brad - First off, amazing site with a lot of helpful information. Have a random question related to a Jordan figurine I found recently. When the first basketball Starting Lineups were released, I recall mailing in 5 proofs of purchase and ~$25 to get a Michael Jordan figure with a hoop that looks to be what was released in the Slam Dunk series, but in a white box. I kept it in the box, but it was lost when my brother discovered it years ago. I haven't been able to find anything about this, so I'm wondering if I misremembered how I purchased it. The next year, I purchased the Jordan Slam Dunk as well to keep in the box, so I can't believe I would have blown my allowance on the same item twice. Thanks

    1. Exact same figure. White box was for mail order, and the red box was for retail. More info under the picture guide...

  32. Have opportunity to purchase estimated 150 starting lineup figures dating back to at least 1991 in unopened packs for 2 bucks a piece. Could I make decent profit with this purchase especially since money is tight for me at this moment??

    1. You be able to make money on that deal. The star players sell for $6 or $7.

  33. I picked up a large collection from a private collector. All 88-91. I found the 91 Will Clark has Bobby Bonilla's name printed on clarks figurine. It is the Giants uniform. It is in perfect mint condition. Has anyone seen this one like that or are there a lot more different ones out there. Its not just putting in the wrong player, its printing the wrong name on the correct player. Thank for reading.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Kenner was not very good at quality control so early printing errors were common, Although I have never heard of this particular error before. The body parts are actually painted before they are assembled so
its easy to pick up the wrong part. These type one off errors are generally $50-100. The value just depends on the popularity of the player.

    1. It's hard to be exact without knowing the year, but most unopened sell for $3 or $4. The price of Jordan depends on condition. You can check AFA results. And of course non-yellowed plastic sells for a premium.
