  1. I don't know what Kenner was trying to prove, but 1991 was when they really began making bad decisions for these figures. Personally, I think the coins make this series much less appealing. But more importantly, putting a halt on sending out the regional packages was their biggest mistake they would ever make. Maybe not necessarily in their eyes, but in the eyes of collectors it was. It really ended up making most SLU pieces a dime a dozen and not even really worth collecting for any reason besides just for fun. From 1991 on they are all easy to find and dirt cheap. Completely opposite of the 88 and 89 sets, and some of the 1990 set.
First the coins, then the posters, everything after that was just cards, but very ugly cards with awkward designs and words on most of them. They really should have kept it simple like the 88 and 89 figures. One card only, simple design, and several regional sets. Thats why 88 and 89 are by far the most sought after set by collectors old and new.
The 1991 and 1992 sets are fun to collect, but mostly for those new to collecting SLU's. Anything after 1992 is not worth buying or collecting unless you are collecting a favorite player or team, or unless you intend on collecting every set from every year. Very few after 1990 are qorth anything at all. And those that are are either rare hard to find variations, convention pieces, mail order/collectors club pieces, or error pieces.
